Volunteer Animator – Cumberland Heritage Village Museum

Volunteer Animator - Cumberland Heritage Village Museum

Volunteer Information Session Dates:

  • Thursday, March 12 – 3:30 – 5 pm, or
  • Thursday, March 26 – 5:30 – 7 pm

Location: Cumberland Heritage Village Museum Church

Cumberland Heritage Village Museum is excited to introduce a new volunteer program designed to enhance the daily visitor and volunteer experience with additional animation of the site.

Volunteers will now have an opportunity to share with visitors what life was like for rural residents during the 1920s and 30s in rural Eastern Ontario. Potential ‘characters’ will include, but are not limited to, a store merchant, a teacher, a farmer, a quilter, or a housewife.

If you are interested in this exciting new volunteer role at the museum, please plan to attend an introductory session. You will learn more about these potential roles, time commitment, necessary skills, training requirements, and documentation needed in order to become a Volunteer Animator at Cumberland Heritage Village Museum throughout the 2020 season.

Attributes that would be best suited for this position include:

  • A love and knowledge of local history;
  • An outgoing / engaging personality;
  • An interest in learning;
  • A willingness to share your knowledge and skills;
  • Has access to personal transportation;
  • Ability to speak English or French at an intermediate level or better;
  • A regular and extended commitment of time.

Due to the training required, a longer term commitment is required for this recurring volunteer position, and is best suited for those who can offer their time on a weekly basis, at minimum.

The deadline to register for the final information session (March 26) is Friday, March 20, 2020.

** Please note that there is no OC Transpo service to the Cumberland Heritage Village Museum, located at 2940 Old Montreal Road, Cumberland, ON K4C 1G3. Volunteers must provide their own transportation to and from the site for all volunteer activities.

If more information is required, please contact Amy at heritagevolunteers@ottawa.ca.
