The Thirteen Strings annual Christmas Concert is always a favourite of audiences, and this year is no different with a wonderful repertoire invoking all the favourite sounds of the season online and accessible to everyone. Fortunately, with the concert recorded at Carleton Dominion-Chalmers Centre, the exquisite sound will remain stellar as always.

Conductor John Rutter, the world’s most performed living composer recorded a short message and an introduction to his beautiful and lively Suite for Strings made up of four movements based on British folksongs.

Gerald Finzi’s Dies Natalis will have guest soprano Mireille Asselin join the strings. A singer deemed “superb” by the Los Angeles Times, and praised by Opera Canada for her “vivacious stage presence” and as a “soprano that charms and brightens a room”, Asselin enjoys a diverse, international career spanning concert, opera, and recital work. To date, Mireille has sung five seasons at the Metropolitan Opera and has also graced the stage at Carnegie Hall.

Another favourite of the Thirteen Strings, composer Arcangelo Corelli completes the concert works with a performance of the Christmas Concerto Op.6 no. 8. beautifully reflecting the angelic sounds of the season. As per the tradition, Thirteen Strings will also record some Christmas carols. Those will be available separately as well for anyone who would like to sing along or play along with the orchestra – words and music will be provided.

The concert can be viewed by visiting the Thirteen Strings’ website at www.thirteenstrings.ca starting on December 22nd at 7:30 p.m. and will be available for viewing well into the New Year.
