Little Shops of Horrors

Ottawa’s very own Nepean High School is staging the classic musical “Little Shop of Horrors” this spring! April 26-28, 2023 we will be welcoming friends, family, and neighbours to the NHS Auditorium to enjoy this wonderful production.

Described as a “deviously delicious Broadway and Hollywood sci-fi smash musical”, Little Shop Of Horrors has devoured the hearts of theatre goers for over 30 years. In this story, the meek floral assistant Seymour Krelborn stumbles across a new breed of plant he names “Audrey II” – after his coworker crush. This foul-mouthed, R&B-singing carnivore promises unending fame and fortune to the down and out Krelborn as long as he keeps feeding it, BLOOD. Over time, though, Seymour discovers Audrey II’s out of this world origins and intent towards global domination!

While the cast and pit band comes from across the Nepean High School student body, all other aspects of the production are completed in-house by our exceptional Drama Production class. The Production class offers students practical opportunities and experience within many creative departments such as lighting, sound design, set design and building, costumes, props, and so much more. Payton Kelly, Head of Costumes for the class (also cast as one of the Ronettes), said, “Prod is such a fun and positive experience, you get so many opportunities, and you make amazing friends.” Maria Delaney, Co-Head of Sets and Audrey in the cast, said, “This musical has been really exciting for me because I get to approach it from two aspects from prod and sets design building what you’re going to see, while also being able to prepare Audrey’s character and perform in a stage setting.” This play is a beautiful way for students apart from the local Ottawa community to put their heads together to create a one-of-a-kind theatrical experience.

The play will be presented to the public and the community 7:00 pm on April 26,27 and 28 in the Nepean High School Auditorium. Doors will open at 6:30 pm, and tickets are $20 at the door, with children 12 and under admitted for free.
