Chair Yoga adapts traditional yoga poses so that they can be done with a chair for support, making yoga more accessible for all people.  Whether it be low mobility seniors or other persons unable to participate in a standard yoga class due to mobility or disability issues, there’s a large population in the yoga community who could deeply benefit from this practice.

The chair takes the place of the yoga mat, and poses are seated or supported by the chair. You get a warm-up, stretching and strengthening, whether you’re coming off an injury, challenged by the physical limits of aging, or have been sitting for too many hours.

Gentle Hatha Yoga (mat) on Wednesday mornings to stretch and strengthen the body; activate the core by strengthening and releasing the tissues that support the spine and pelvis; work on balance and practice breathing (Pranayama) as a source of strength and relaxation.  No yoga experience required, however participants should be able to get up from and down to a mat.  A chair prop may be used for balance during standing practice.
